Major infrastructure projects are often recognised for their engineering ambition, economic significance and ability to connect communities. Yet behind every successful development lies another responsibility: ensuring that the people building and operating these systems can do so safely.
For Abdul Majid, this responsibility has defined more than 18 years of international experience in Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) management across railways, metro systems, power transmission and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Currently serving as Country EHS Manager for the UAE and Oman at Siemens Mobility, he is contributing to one of the region’s most significant transportation developments: the Hafeet Rail Project, the 303-kilometre cross-border railway connecting the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
His career reflects the importance of combining technical expertise, international experience and responsible leadership to strengthen safety standards across complex infrastructure environments.
Since August 2024, Abdul Majid has been involved in the Hafeet Rail Project, a landmark initiative connecting Abu Dhabi with Sohar through a cross-border railway network.
As the first cross-border railway connecting the UAE and Oman, the project represents an important development in regional transportation infrastructure and economic connectivity.
For Abdul Majid, the assignment brings together many of the disciplines he has developed throughout his professional career.
His responsibilities encompass EHS strategy, governance and operational safety assurance across four systems integration packages covering approximately 303 kilometres of railway infrastructure.

The work includes managing risks associated with electrical systems, high-voltage energisation, railway testing, lifting operations and other technically demanding activities.
He also contributes to safety assurance documentation, risk assessments and the development of procedures supporting testing, commissioning and operational readiness.
Working across two countries introduces additional complexities, particularly in coordinating contractors, consultants, project stakeholders and different regulatory requirements.
His involvement demonstrates how safety leadership becomes an essential part of delivering infrastructure that crosses national boundaries.

The success of major infrastructure is measured not only by what is built, but by the responsibility shown towards the people who build it.
Before joining Hafeet Rail, Abdul Majid developed extensive experience across major transportation projects in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
Between 2020 and 2022, he served as Global EHS Manager for Siemens Mobility’s Turnkey Business Unit, based in Berlin, Germany.

In this position, he oversaw EHS strategy and governance across a multi-billion-euro portfolio encompassing railway, metro, tramway and high-speed rail developments.
His responsibilities extended to projects including the Qatar Education City Tram, Riyadh Metro, Pune Metro and Egypt High-Speed Rail, alongside railway initiatives in Germany and Norway.
Working across multiple countries required an understanding of different regulatory frameworks, project environments and operational challenges.
His role involved advising senior executives and project directors on critical safety risks, contractor management, regulatory compliance and operational safety assurance.
This international exposure strengthened his ability to apply established safety principles while responding to the particular requirements of individual projects.
One of the defining achievements in Abdul Majid’s professional record came during his involvement in a major infrastructure programme in Qatar.
Between February 2022 and June 2024, he served as OHSS Manager on the Al Wajba East Roads and Infrastructure Project, undertaken for Qatar’s Public Works Authority, Ashghal.
The QAR 1.4 billion development involved extensive road and infrastructure works, including drainage systems, lighting, footways and associated urban infrastructure.

During his tenure, the project achieved eight million safe working hours without a lost-time injury, alongside recognition through the Ashghal Best Performance Award.
His responsibilities included contractor safety management, inspections, risk assessments, emergency preparedness and worker welfare.

Such outcomes require consistent attention to safety procedures, effective communication and the involvement of personnel across different levels of project delivery.
The experience reflects a leadership approach in which safety is treated as a continuous operational responsibility rather than an administrative requirement.
A significant part of Abdul Majid’s career has focused on developing safety awareness among employees, contractors and management teams.
During his work on the Qatar Education City People Mover System, an 11-kilometre tram development, he held responsibility for EHS management across construction, commissioning and operational activities.
The project included 20 stops, four stations, a depot and associated infrastructure.
His responsibilities included developing safety procedures, conducting risk assessments and implementing emergency response arrangements.
The project achieved 100% safety training coverage for workers, contractors and management personnel, supported by inspections, audits and corrective action monitoring.
His performance was subsequently recognised through a Letter of Recognition from Siemens Management for Best Performance in FY 2019–20.
This experience highlights the importance of developing safety awareness throughout an organisation.

A strong safety culture is created when responsibility becomes a shared commitment, from senior management to every person working on site.
Abdul Majid’s professional journey began in Qatar, where he worked on electrical infrastructure and power transmission projects.
His early responsibilities included safety coordination for high-voltage substations, power cables and associated engineering activities.
Over time, he progressed into project safety management, international railway assignments and global EHS leadership.
His qualifications include Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), the NEBOSH International Diploma and Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
He also holds qualifications in occupational health and safety management and lead auditor credentials covering ISO management standards.

These professional credentials complement practical experience in high-risk environments, where technical knowledge must be supported by effective judgement and organisational accountability.
His progression illustrates how sustained professional development can prepare specialists for increasingly complex leadership responsibilities.
Abdul Majid’s career reflects a sustained contribution to occupational safety, infrastructure development and international project management.
From power transmission projects in Qatar to global railway assignments and his current responsibilities on Hafeet Rail, his professional journey demonstrates the importance of experienced safety leaders in delivering technically complex developments.
His involvement in the UAE–Oman Hafeet Rail Project is particularly significant, connecting his international expertise with an infrastructure initiative of direct importance to Oman’s transportation future.

For Icons Oman, Abdul Majid represents professional leadership grounded in technical competence, practical experience and a commitment to protecting people throughout major infrastructure developments.
His journey highlights an essential principle of engineering progress: lasting infrastructure achievement depends not only on innovation and construction capability, but also on the safety, wellbeing and responsibility embedded throughout its delivery.
