The evolution of banking in Oman is increasingly shaped by the ability to combine trusted financial principles with changing customer expectations.
For Nasser Nahdi, that evolution has defined a career spanning more than two decades in banking, from branch leadership and national sales to product development and Islamic retail banking.
Today, as Head of Islamic Retail Banking at Sohar Islamic, Sohar International, Nahdi brings together extensive frontline experience, commercial understanding and specialist knowledge of Islamic finance.
Nahdi spent nearly a decade as a Branch Manager at Bank Muscat, an experience that placed him close to customers, teams and the everyday realities of retail banking.
He subsequently moved into wider management responsibilities within Meethaq Islamic Banking, including branch coordination and national sales.
This progression provided a perspective that extends beyond products and numbers. Retail banking depends on understanding how customers interact with financial institutions, what they expect from those relationships and how teams translate strategy into service.

Strong retail banking leadership begins with understanding the customer, but grows through understanding the organisation that serves them.
Islamic banking became an increasingly important focus of Nahdi’s career.
His professional experience at Meethaq was complemented by formal academic study, including a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Finance from the College of Banking and Financial Studies.
In 2021, he joined Sohar International as Unit Head of Islamic Retail Products, taking responsibility within an area where product development must balance commercial relevance, customer needs and the principles underpinning Islamic financial services.
In February 2025, he progressed to Head of Islamic Retail Banking, marking another expansion in the scope of his leadership.
Nahdi’s career progression provides him with experience across several layers of the banking relationship.
Branch management developed his understanding of customers and frontline operations. National sales added a broader commercial perspective. Product leadership brought greater exposure to how financial propositions are structured and positioned.
His current role brings those experiences together.

The strength of a banking proposition lies not only in the product itself, but in how effectively it responds to the needs of the people it is designed to serve.
His academic development has followed a similarly broad path. Alongside his qualification in Islamic Finance, Nahdi holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management from the University of Bedfordshire, as well as qualifications in business administration, management and organisational behaviour.
Nahdi’s journey reflects the value of developing leadership from within the banking system.
Over more than two decades, his responsibilities have progressed from managing an individual branch to coordinating wider banking activities, developing Islamic retail products and ultimately leading Islamic retail banking.
That continuity has given him exposure to both the operational and strategic dimensions of the sector.
As banking continues to evolve, the challenge is not simply to introduce new products. It is to maintain customer confidence while adapting services, channels and propositions to changing expectations.

Progress in banking is strongest when innovation is matched by trust, relevance and a clear understanding of the customer.
Nasser Nahdi’s professional journey represents a sustained contribution to Oman’s banking and Islamic finance landscape.
From his early leadership at Bank Muscat and his years with Meethaq Islamic Banking to his current position at Sohar Islamic, Sohar International, his career has developed through increasing responsibility across customer relationships, sales, products and retail banking leadership.
For Icons Oman, his story reflects the contribution of Omani banking professionals whose experience has been built from the ground up, combining practical knowledge of customers with the leadership required to help shape the future of Islamic financial services in the Sultanate.
