This early experience established a practical understanding of how infrastructure operates behind the scenes. It also gave him exposure to problem-solving, technical risk and systems management, capabilities that later became relevant as his career moved beyond IT.

The next stage of Al Habsi’s career expanded his responsibilities considerably. At Al Muthla Golden Trading and Contracting, he served as Senior Business Development Manager while also taking responsibility for HSE management.

The role introduced a different dimension to his experience. Business development required market research, identifying prospective accounts, developing proposals and pursuing commercial opportunities. HSE responsibilities, meanwhile, involved safety policies, training, incident investigation, hazard identification and compliance with workplace requirements.

The combination brought together commercial activity, people management and operational risk, broadening his perspective beyond purely technical functions.

Project Leadership at the National Energy Center

His career has been shaped less by a single specialisation than by the ability to connect different parts of an organisation. Since joining the National Energy Center in 2024, Al Habsi has taken on a broader project and operations mandate, with responsibilities covering project leadership, procurement, supply chain and operational readiness.

His work includes coordinating suppliers and vendors, managing RFQ and RFP processes, supporting commercial assessments, monitoring budgets, overseeing contract administration and maintaining stakeholder relationships. He also leads project coordination and monitors progress against objectives, timelines and resource requirements.

As part of his transition into project and operational leadership, Al Habsi completed a six-month secondment at Terminal 11 – the National Innovation Accelerator Center, where he contributed to managing and delivering several projects and operational initiatives.

The secondment expanded his operational responsibilities across operational readiness, facilities and contractor management, stakeholder and tenant coordination, procurement, HSE and business continuity. His work involved coordinating the practical requirements needed to support projects and ensure that the wider operational environment remained ready to function effectively.

Working across facilities, contractors, service providers, tenants and other stakeholders required close coordination between different parties and priorities. The assignment also provided practical exposure to managing operational requirements alongside project delivery, procurement processes, health and safety considerations and business continuity.

The experience represents an important step in Al Habsi’s progression from technical and commercial responsibilities towards broader project and operational leadership, demonstrating his ability to connect planning, coordination and execution in a live organisational environment.
